SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk women's soccer fell to Western New England, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon at Supernant Field in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Western New England 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (7-4-2, 2-2-0 CCC) | Western New England (8-2-2, 5-0-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Western New England's fifth corner kick of the game proved to be the difference as Emma French got the scoring started. Julia Frappier's corner kick was initially punched out by Sophia Barker. Barker landed on the turf after the initial save and French was there to pick up the rebound and fire it home with 1:12 left on the clock before half time.

Barker took care of business in the second stanza as Suffolk's sophomore turned aside the trio of shots that came her way in the second half to keep the one-goal margin intact.

The Rams managed to put a pair of attempts on net over a 28-second span over the 68th minute. Both were denied by Molly McLaughlin though to preserve the victory for WNE.

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Barker finished with a 10-save effort.
  • McLaughlin had five stops in the win.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • WNE dominated shots, 21-9, including an 11-5 margin in shots on net.
  • The Golden Bears took seven corner kicks compared to the blue-and-gold's two.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Barker's 10-stop performance is a season-high for a blue-and-gold keeper.
