Women’s Soccer Fights to Scoreless Draw with UMass Boston

EAST BOSTON – In its non-conference finale, Suffolk women's soccer battled UMass Boston to a scoreless draw Tuesday night at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial ParkSophia Barker had six saves in the second half off the bench for the Rams to preserve the tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk's lone chance in the first frame were denied by UMass Boston's starting keeper Julia Cote, while Arden Ferrari-Henry scooped up the Beacons only shot on target in the first half to keep things even at 0-0 at halftime.  

UMB pressured Barker in net throughout the second stanza. The visitors put six shots on frame and the sophomore turned aside all of them to keep the Beacons silent.  

One of Suffolk's best chances came with 1:55 left in regulation when Makena Columbus chipped a shot on target. Isabella O'Connell was there to stop the shot and force the non-conference clash to end with zeros on the board. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Both starts earned the result. 
  • Ferrari-Henry tallied one save in 15:39 of time.
  • Barker logged six stops in 74:21 of action. 
  • Cote had one save in the first half for the visitors, while O'Connell logged two stops in the second stanza.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • UMass Boston held a 10-9 edge in shots. 
  • The Beacons put seven shots on target compared to the Rams three. 
  • UMB took eight corner kicks compared to the blue-and-gold's four. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk and UMass Boston renewed a rivalry, meeting for the first-time since Sept. 25, 2013. 
  • Suffolk moved to 0-1-1 all-time against UMB. 
  • The Rams hosted the Beacons for the first time. 
  • Barker had a season-best six saves.
