Women’s Soccer Names Tri-Captains for 2023

BOSTON – Three upperclassmen will don the 'C' for the 2023 Suffolk women's soccer season as second-year head coach Ellie McDougall announced that seniors Alicia Bibi and Klaudia Rushi and junior Grace Owens will share the role.

Bibi and Rushi return to their post after earning the title last year, while Owens steps into the position for the first time in her career. It is the second straight season that three Rams will work together as captains.

"I am very excited about our leadership going into this season," McDougall said. "Each of them have strong leadership qualities and were nominated by their teammates for a reason. All three are great examples on the field and off, all while possessing a competitive spirit that will help drive this team forward."

Rushi, midfielders from Beverly, Massachusetts, will enter her senior season after a career campaign as a junior in which she anchored Suffolk's 17-goal offense, scoring six herself and assisting on another.

Bibi, who calls Marlborough, Massachusetts home, and Owens, a native of Sutton, Massachusetts, meanwhile, have been staples on the Rams backline throughout their collegiate careers. The former, has started 25 of the 29 games she has played in and found the back of the net once. The latter, meanwhile, earned all-region and all-conference honors as a freshman in 2021 and has started all 33 games that Suffolk has played in over the last two years.

With its captains leading the way, Suffolk is prepared to open its 17th campaign Friday, Sept. 1 when Elms stops by James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park for a 4 p.m. tilt.
