Gordon Defeats Women’s Soccer, 4-2

WENHAM, Mass. – Suffolk women's soccer scored multiple goals against Gordon for the first time in program history, but it would not be enough to take down the Fighting Scots, who bested the Rams, 4-2, Saturday morning in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk fell behind 3-0 as Gordon poured in three unanswered in the first 31 minutes of play. The Fighting Scots starting scoring early, just 2:01 into the action when Kendra Wentling found the back of the net with help from Ava Forbes-Smith. Fifteen minutes later, Wentling struck for the second time on the day, to double the distance, before Forbes-Smith netted a goal of her own in the 31st minute. 

Chasing three goals, Daniela Petronio eliminated the shutout with 2:36 remaining before halftime. The freshman turned a pass from Klaudia Rushi into a high kick from nearly 20-plus yards out over the reach of Emily Bengtson's goalie gloves to put the Rams on the board and trim the edge to two, 3-2, at intermission.  

Gordon regained a three-goal lead just about 10 minutes into the second stanza when Forbes-Smith put away her second strike of the day with help from Wentling. 

Suffolk continued its comeback attempt and saw hope after Chelsea Fallon connected for a goal in the 79th minute thanks to an assist from Jazmya Harris. Fallon's second goal of the season trimmed the gap back to two with just over 10 minutes remaining. 

That margin remained the rest of the way as Sophia Barker turned the last shot she faced aside and the Fighting Scots held Suffolk without an attempt on target down the stretch. 

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Barker notched four saves in the setback. 
  • Emily Bengston recorded four stops in the victory.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Petronio and Fallon were responsible for the Rams goals with one each. 
  • Rushi and Harris each contributed on assist. 
  • Gordon held an edge in shots, 15-11, as well as shots on target, 8-6. 
  • The Fighting Scots' corner chances doubled the blue-and-gold's, 4-2. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • The two goals scored against Gordon are the most versus the Fighting Scots in program history. 
  • Fallon and Petronio scored her second goal of the season.
  • Rushi dished out her first assist of the year. 
  • Harris notched her first point of her sophomore campaign.
