Women’s Soccer Blanks Wentworth, 2-0, for first CCC Win

BOSTON – Suffolk women's soccer earned its first Commonwealth Coast Conference victory of the year behind a 2-0 shutout of Wentworth Tuesday afternoon at Sweeney Field. The Rams scored twice in the first half and Sophia Barker took care of business in net to lead the blue-and-gold to its first CCC triumph under Ellie McDougall's guidance.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Wentworth 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (4-5-3, 1-2-2 CCC) | Wentworth (6-5-2, 1-3-1 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk scored less than two minutes into the action. Wentworth attempted to clear the zone, but the Rams attack pursued and kept possession. From the right-side line Chelsea Fallon lofted a centering pass to Delaney Hall, who headed over a Leopards defender to a waiting Klaudia Rushi. The blue-and-gold junior sent a high kick over WIT's charging keeper Juliana Heaton and the ball took one bounce into the back of the twine to give a 1-0 edge to the visitors.

The score stayed still until the 42nd minute when Suffolk extended the margin. Off a corner Molly Knight's corner, Wentworth's defense once again made a move to get the ball out of its own territory. Ashley Cassino-Henriquez picked up the clear and sent it right back to the Leopards cage. The shot was no match for Heaton as it was just over the reach of the keeper's gloves to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage with 3:38 to go before intermission.

Wentworth came out of the locker room determined to make its way on the board. Barker handled all four shots the Leopards put on target, however, to keep Suffolk's two goal lead in tact the rest of the way. The Rams defense was held scoreless in the second half as Adrianna Arona took over for Heaton and gloved the two attempts the blue-and-gold put on target in the final 30 minutes.
