Harris Nets Golden Goal to Lift Women’s Soccer Over Roger Williams in Overtime, 2-1

BRISTOL, R.I. – With one minute remaining in the first overtime, Jazmya Harris potted the game-winner to break open a 1-all time and push Suffolk women's soccer to a 2-1 victory over Roger Williams in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Bayside Field Tuesday night.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Roger Williams 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (11-5-0, 5-4-0 CCC) | Roger Williams (12-7-0, 5-4-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Halfway through the first frame Lily Christian set up Harris to break open the scoring. Suffolk took that one-goal lead into half time and hung onto it until the 74:10-minute mark when the Hawks responded. Leah Yucius put away the equalize thanks to Rachel Oster's feed to even things up at 1-all.

Roger Williams controlled the remainder of second half and had a handful of chances to grab the lead. Allison Rodrigues stood up to the task to keep things locked as the whistle blew to signal the end of regulation.

Suffolk stormed out of the short intermission and limited RWU to just a pair of shots. The first came within the first 1:26 off Rachel Oster's boot and flew wide, while the second came off a corner kick with 2:01 left on the clock and met Rodrigues' gloves.

As time ticked down, the Rams flew down the pitch to make their move, Hayley Long dished to Harris who converted the pass into the game-winner with exactly 1:00 left in the first overtime.

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Rodrigues had herself a night with an 11-save effort.
  • Morgan McCutcheon registered five stops in the setback.
