Rodrigues Named CCC Defensive Player of the Week

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Allison Rodrigues of the Suffolk women's soccer team picked up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week after backstopping the Rams to 2-0-0 league ledger last week, the conference office announced Monday.

Rodrigues turned aside nearly all 15 shots she faced over the pair of conference contests to finish the two-game week with 14 saves, a 0.50 goals-against average and 93.3 save percentage.

The North Andover, Massachusetts, local opened the week with an eight-stop performance in a 4-1 win over Wentworth. Four days later, the senior captain shutout Curry, 1-0, with a six-save effort. That cleansheet over the Colonels marked the 19th of the keeper's career, which ties Suffolk's record that has been held by Melissa Brouillette '15 since 2014.

Rodrigues is the first Suffolk goalie to take home a major weekly award since she did herself Sept. 26, 2019 with a GNAC Goaltender of the Week nod. The second weekly award in her collegiate career marks the Rams' second of 2021 as Jazmya Harris was tabbed the league's best rookie over a seven-day stretch Sept. 27. The pair marks the first time Suffolk has seen multiple weekly awards in the Ashley Van Vechten era and first time season with numerous weekly awards since 2017 when Julia Fieldsend (goalie) and Alexandra Nagri (player) grabbed GNAC Corvias weekly honors.

Rodrigues and the Rams are back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 26 when they wrap up the 2021 regular-season at Roger Williams. Action in Bristol, Rhode Island, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
