Women’s Soccer Shutouts Curry 1-0 on Senior Day, #RamsFanFest

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk women's soccer came out victorious in front of a loud James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park for Senior Day and Rams Fan Fest with a 1-0 cleansheet over Curry 1-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) battle Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the 30th minute Curry forward Shannon Folan found herself with the ball on the left side of the box, but was denied by Allison Rodrigues to keep the game scoreless.  

It remained a 0-0 tie going into the half, with Suffolk landing five shots on net compared to three for Curry.  

The Rams broke the tie in the first minute of the second stanza when Carley Pearce sent a pass to Lily Christian streaking down the field. Christian sent a shot from the right side of the box that went off the right post and into the back of the net. 

Curry's Folan had another opportunity to put the Colonels on the board. This time from the left side of the box with a defender in tow, but was turned away by another great save from Rodrigues.

The Rams had chance to add insurance in the 78th when Klaudia Rushi collected a pass in the center of the box, but just missed the mark with an attempt that went over the crossbar. 

Rodrigues was tested three times in the second half but turned away each shot to secure a 1-0 victory for the Rams in their final home match of the regular-season. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Rodrigues notched three saves in each half for a total of six in a winning effort.
  • Stella Schofield picked up eight saves in a close defeat for Curry.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk held a slight edge 15-14 on shots, and a 9-6 advantage with shots on target.
  • Curry led the contest 3-0 on corner kicks.
  • Hayley Long and Folan each had four shots on goal to lead their clubs respectively.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk and Curry played their third match against each other all time, with the Rams gaining the edge in the all-time series 2-1 after their win.
  • This was the first contest the two teams have played at East Boston.
  • Rodrigues tied Suffolk's all-time shutout record with her 19th collegiate cleansheet. She is one shutout shy of breaking the record, which has been held by Melissa Brouillette '15 (25-29-4) since 2014. 
  • Rodrigues recorded her eighth shutout of the season, good for share of third in NCAA Division III. 
  • The Rams have kept an opponent off the scoreboard 19 times in the Ashley Van Vechten era. 
  • Pearce has set-up a Suffolk goal in each of the last two outings. 
  • Christian, who is on a two-game point streak, put away her fifth goal of the year. 
  • Prior to first kick, Suffolk honored the playing careers of its four-member Class of 2022, Julia HuntJackie Kelly, Pearce and Rodrigues.
