Endicott Sneaks Past Women’s Soccer, 1-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott managed to break onto the scoreboard with 10 minutes left in the first half and Suffolk women's soccer could never catch up to fall to the Gulls, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Hampstead Stadium.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Endicott 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-5-0, 2-4-0 CCC) | Endicott (7-3-2, 5-1-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Each side saw ample opportunities over the first 45 minutes, but it was Endicott that converted to take the one-goal edge into the half. From the 25-yard line Riley Rischitelli passed to Morgan Hubert on the right. Hubert raced past a Rams' defender for a quick shot two yards away from the right goal post. Allison Rodrigues leaped to make the grab, but tipped the ball away instead. The rebound landed inbounds, inches from the goal line on the opposite side of the net where Rischitelli waited wide open to tip the rock away with just under 10 minutes left to play before the intermission.

Julia Hunt had the chance to level the playing field in the 54th minute. The senior's attempted was collected by Rosalina Caliri to keep the Rams off the scoreboard.

Seven minutes later, Suffolk had back-to-back corner kicks, however, the Rams were unable to capitalize on those chances to stay in that one-goal hole Endicott set up in the first frame.

From there, Endicott looked to double the distance. First, Alexandra Dostie fired a high attempt to the Rodrigues. The ball went just high, hitting the football cross bars, before Rischitelli looked attempted to add to her stat line with two quick shots, but both met Rodrigues' gloves to keep things at 1-0, with just over 11 minutes remaining in regulation.

Time ticked on and Suffolk did not get another shot off. Grace Jewett did face a wide-open net with 59 seconds on the clock to tack on an insurance tally. Rodrigues was pulled out of position and Jewett pinged a rainbow shot off the cross bar and the one-goal stayed as time expired.

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Rodrigues registered seven saves in the setback.
  • Caliri stopped all five shots she faced.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • The Rams had one more corner kick than the Gulls, 4-3.
  • Hayley Long took two shots, both of which were on target.
