Women’s Soccer Falls at UNE, 2-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk women's soccer slipped in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action to the University of New England, 2-0, Tuesday night at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | UNE 2
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-3-0, 2-2-0 CCC) | UNE (7-4-1, 3-1-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNE managed to tack on one tally with just under 20 minutes to play in before half time. The Nor'Easters intercepted a pass at the mid-field and ping ball passed up the pitch for what the hosts intended to be a breakaway. The Rams had other things in mind as a defender slid tackled the ball out of bounds, which set up an UNE corner. Morgan Difenbach's corner kick set-up a goal-scoring header for Erica Dimmick. Allison Rodrigues made every effort to stop the rock from hitting the netting, but her leap was just a touch short of the ball and the Nor'Easters went ahead 1-0 at the 25:20-minute mark.

Suffolk made plays to even the playing field. The one-goal remained the rest of the first frame and the majority of the second until the Nor'Easters doubled their lead. UNE scored its second goal almost identically to its first just at the opposite end of the field. This time it was a free kick inches inside the corner kick line by Bella Reil that connected with Morgan Diefenbach for a scoring header. The goal clipped the right-hand side of the twine with 2:31 left on the clock.

Over the final few minutes of regulation Suffolk saw two shot chances, one by Klaudia Rushi and another from Hayley Long. Both missed left and the Rams were unable to make it on the board.
