Women’s Soccer Blanks Nichols 3-0 in First Ever Meeting

EAST BOSTON – Three different Rams scored and Allison Rodrigues was perfect in net as Suffolk women's soccer notched its seventh shutout of the season, a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over Nichols, Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the match as Nicole Morin-Trotta lofted a pass over the heads of the Nichols back line to Hayley Long who carried the ball into the left side of the box. The junior netted a shot to the bottom left corner of the net to break open the scoring.  

The Rams added another score in the first half when Lily Christian headed a ball forward to Aislinn Servaes streaking down the middle of the field past the defense. Servaes floated a shot from the middle of the box past the goalie into the bottom left corner of the net to double the hosts advantage, 2-0, at the 26:06-minute mark. 

Rodrigues stood tall in net with three saves in the first half to keep the Bison off the board and keep the two-goal cushion intact for the blue-and-gold as the team's headed to the locker room. 

Rodrigues kept the Bison scoreless the rest of the way and Suffolk added an insurance tally in the 74th minute. Servaes raced down the right sideline past the Nichols backline to set-up Chirstian for a score. The rookie beat Adie Hughes from the middle of the box to the bottom right corner of the net with a right-footed strike for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS 

  • Rodrigues stopped five shots on net in the victory. 
  • Adie Hughes picked up six saves in the losing effort.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Servaes and Christian contributed one goal and one assist each. 
  • Morin-Trotta assisted one goal. 
  • Suffolk held the slight edge on shots, 15-13, and shots on goal, 9-5.
  • Nichols led corner kicks 4-1.   

NOTEWORTHY

  • This was the first meeting between Suffolk and Nichols. 
  • Suffolk posted their seventh shutout out of eight wins. 
  • Long and Christian each netted their fourth goals on the year. 
  • Rodrigues seventh shutout moves her into a tie for third best in the country. 
  • Rodrigues has 18 shutouts to her credit. 
  • Suffolk now has shutout an opponent 18 times in the Ashley Van Vechten era. 
  • Rodrigues picks up her eighth win and seventh shutout of the season. 
  • Servaes put in her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
  • Morin-Trotta and Servaes each picked up their fourth assists on the year.  
  • Long has scored a goal in three out of the last four games.
