EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk women's soccer team totaled 43 shots Saturday afternoon as the Rams shot past Norwich, 2-1, in a GNAC contest at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

The win is Suffolk's (3-6, 2-1 GNAC) sixth straight in the all-time series versus the Cadets (2-5-1, 0-2-1 GNAC), while the Rams' 43 shots are the most by a blue-and-gold squad since tallying 46 in a 12-0 shutout over Anna Maria October 24, 2012.

It was all Suffolk right off the kick-off as the hosts turned on its momentum and charged to Norwich territory. Within the first 10 minutes of action the Rams had four corner attempts and five shots, including three on target. Those numbers blossomed as minutes continued to tick off the first-half clock, but the Rams were not the first on the scoreboard. On their second chance of the afternoon the Cadets capitalized as Ariana Lacombe fired a sniper at Kirsten Weiker from the 15-yard line. The shot drifted over Weiker's out reached gloves and landed right inside the goal line. Lacombe's first tally of the season put Norwich ahead, 1-0, at the 33rd minute mark.

Suffolk continue to put on the up tempo pressure and saw its best change of the first frame when Alexandra Nagri stole the ball from the Cadets' defense just above the visitors left box. Nagri's attempt rocketed over the post just under five minutes before intermission to keep it 1-0 on the board in favor of Norwich.

The Rams held the upper hand in all categories through the first 45 minutes as the Rams outshot the Cadets, 23-2, including shots on goal, 14-1, and had eight corner attempts compared to Norwich's zero. Brooke Dewyea's play between the pipes kept Suffolk off the scoreboard as the freshman keeper made 14 saves in the first half.

Determined to keep its win-streak against the Cadets going, Suffolk burst out of the locker room and the Rams evened the playing field just six minutes into the second stanza following a series of three straight Suffolk shots. Shannon Simmons got the ball rolling with an attempt, before Veronica Bernardo's shot from the corner of the right box pulled Dewyea out of the net. Dewyea used her body for the save, but Nagri was there to pick up the pieces and sent the ball to the back of the netting for the sixth time season.

Almost exactly 20 minutes went by before the Rams struck again. Jennifer Martin made a throw to Bernardo who pulled the defense with a dribble to the middle before sending a pass back to Martin. The sophomore lofted her shot from the right side, over the gloves of Dewyea, and into the goal. Martin's third goal of the season put Suffolk out in front, 2-1.

Dewyea continued to put on a performance in goal for the remainder of the contest as the netminder finished the day with 24 saves, the fifth most in NCAA Division III women's soccer this season.

Suffolk finished the afternoon with advantages in shots, 43-3, shots on goal, 26-1, and corner kicks, 12-1.

The Rams have one day of rest before returning to Eastie Monday, Sept. 8 for a local showdown with Lesley at 6:45 p.m.
