WNE Uses Third Period to Take Down Women’s Hockey, 3-1

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Two unanswered Golden Bears goals in the third period pushed Western New England past Suffolk women's hockey, 3-1, Saturday night at the Olympia Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Alessi Di Silvestro punched on the board for the blue-and-gold 2:28 into the middle period. Sydney Fascetta and Anya Nichipor set-up the game-opening goal. 

WNE leveled the playing field 2:01 later when Alexa Paoli scored on the power play.  

The 2-all game remained through the second intermission before a shorthanded strike by Jenna Lynch sent the Golden Bears in front at the 8:50 mark of the third period. 

Maddy Tucker added an insurance tally with five minutes remaining in regulation for the 3-1 final.  

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Lily O'Neil had 16 saves in the setback.
  • Kayla Irlend registered a 33-stop performance.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Di Silvestro scored Suffolk's lone goal of the night. 
  • Fascetta and Nichipor notched one assist apiece. 
  • Suffolk outshot WNE, 34-19, and commanded the face-off dot, 31-17. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • It is just the fourth time in the all-time series that a game between Suffolk and Western New England did not end in a shutout. 
  • Suffolk moved to 1-2-0 versus Western New England under Abby Ostrom's guidance. 
  • Di Silvestro found the back of the net for the fourth time this season. 
  • Fascetta and Nichipor each had their second assists of the year.
