EAST BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey fell to the University of New England, 2-1, Saturday in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
University of New England grabbed a one-goal lead at 13:04. Lainie Lemieux caused a Rams' turnover in the neutral zone and Hannah Humes picked up the puck, took it towards the left face-off dot and scored in the opposite side of the net to force Suffolk to play from behind.  

The Rams leveled the playing field with 52 seconds left in the second period. Jenna Cabellero had the puck behind the net found a diving Katie Newkirk, who quickly fired over Delanie Corcoran's stick side shoulder to even things at 1-all.  

Humes found the back of the net for the second time in the outing on a shorthanded breakaway that gave the Nor'Easters a 2-1 edge with 8:26 left in regulation.  

Corcorcan kept the lead for UNE as the netminder turned aside all nine shots Suffolk managed to put on target the rest of the way to keep it 2-1 in the Nor'Easters favor at the final buzzer. 

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Lily O'Neil registered 19 saves in the setback. 
  • Corcoran finished with 34 stops.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Newkirk scored Suffolk's lone goal. 
  • Caballero recorded the Rams only assist. 
  • Suffolk outshot UNE, 35-21. 
  • The Rams won the face off battle 32-25. 
  • Suffolk went 0-for-3 on the power play and successfully skated off two penalty kills.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Newkirk notched her second goal of the year. 
  • Caballero had her sixth assist of the year.
