Women’s Hockey Comes Up Short Against Bowdoin at Codfish Bowl

BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 decision as the Rams slipped to Bowdoin in the opening game of the 16th Codfish Bowl hosted by UMass Boston Saturday at Edward T. Barry Rink.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Bowdoin 2
RECORDS: Suffolk (2-7-0) | Bowdoin (2-1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first, Bowdoin took advantage of a power play to push onto the scoreboard as Luna Lu scored with help from Kathryn Kester and Brett Stoaddard at the 11:19 mark of the middle period.

A Rams response came off Cassie Borowski's stick nearly six minutes later. The freshman picked up the rebound of her own shot and snuck it past Abby Matusovich to level the playing field. Katie Newkirk and Liliana Moose aided in the game-tying goal.

Things remained locked at 1-all until there was just under seven minutes remaining in regulation when Stoddard scored thanks to a feed from Elsa Cassidy.

The blue-and-gold was limited to just one shot on target the rest of the way that Matusovich turned aside to hand Suffolk its second straight one-goal setback.
