O’Neil Grabs CCC Goaltender and Rookie of the Week

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Lily O'Neil of the Suffolk women's hockey team picked up a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards as the sophomore was named CCC Goaltender and Rookie of the Week after her netminder skills at then-No. 8 Endicott, the league office announced.

O'Neil, who calls Abington, Massachusetts home, backstopped Suffolk to an 4-3 upset victory over the nationally ranked Gulls. She made 47 saves in the stunner, which marked the program's first-ever win over a ranked opponent and the blue-and-gold's first victory over Endicott.

O'Neil's first career weekly award marks the second time this season that a Suffolk netminder was recognized by the league as Julia McLellan took home weekly goalie honors Jan. 18. O'Neil is the seventh Ram this year to garner a weekly award from the CCC. Overall the seven student-athletes have combined for nine weekly nods this year. On top of the pair of goaltender awards, Shana Cote holds a pair of player of the weeks, Sofia Scilipoti has two awards as well, a player and rookie, both of which came Nov. 8, with Jesse Kennedy (player) and Hannah Gordon (rookie) with one award apiece.

Suffolk is less than a half hour from a rematch with Endicott. The Rams and No. 10 Gulls are set for a 4:15 p.m. CCC clash this afternoon, Monday, Jan. 31.
