Women’s Hockey Surprises No. 8 Endicott, 4-3

BEVERLY, Mass. – Trailing 3-2 headed into the third, Suffolk women's hockey scored two unanswered goals in the final period to overtake No. 8 Endicott Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 4 | No. 8 Endicott 2
RECORDS: Suffolk (14-2-0, 9-1-0 CCC) | No. 8 Endicott (11-4-1, 9-2-1 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Leslie Steiner sniped a shot from the blue line 6:22 into the action and Sofia Scilipoti tipped it in to get the Rams on the board first. Vanessa Stuart dished up to Steiner to set-up the shot, that was put away by Scilipoti. The Gulls got the goal back 2:28 later thanks to Kellie Popkin and a new game stood. '

That tied score did not last long as Julia Franklin regained the edge for the blue-and-gold just over a minute after. From behind Endicott's cage, Shana Cote fed Franklin, who was stationed in front of Michaela O'Brien. Gulls crowded Franklin, but she managed to get a shot off and past O'Brien to regain the edge in the Rams' favor, 2-1, at the 9:58 minute mark.

Endicott potted a pair of pucks in the middle period, one on the penalty kill, to put the Rams in a 3-2 hole as the game transitioned into the third.

At the midway point of the final frame, the Rams' righted those wrongs and even the game at 3-all. From the right-side blue line, Natasha Savage fired a slap shot towards the goal. Kat Keith blocked Suffolk's senior's initial shot, but it was the rebound that the blue-and-gold defenseman sent towards the cage and past O'Brien.

The Rams took advantage on the power play 5:51 later. With a cluster in front of O'Brien, Steiner barreled the puck from the blue line towards the net where a cluster waited in front of O'Brien. Sam Molind managed to chip it away to give Suffolk the go ahead, 4-3. Maddy Burton and Steiner aided on the go-ahead goal.

Over the final six minutes, Suffolk controlled the pace the action, limiting the Gulls to two shots. Lily O'Neil did her job for the shot that came on target to preserve the upset victory.
