Connecticut College Stumps Women’s Hockey, 3-0

EAST BOSTON – In its first contest of second semester, Suffolk women's hockey was kept off the scoreboard by Connecticut College, 3-0, in non-conference action Tuesday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Conn. College 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (9-2-0) | Conn. College (4-5-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Zeroes hung on the board after the first 20 minutes that was featured few whistles and no penalties. The same can't be said for the middle period as both side saw multiple power play chances. Camille Phelan poked the puck through on the Camels second man-up opportunity of the game. Miyu Miyazaki and Morgan Bronstein aided in goal at the 15:30 minute mark that sent Suffolk into the locker room for the second time down one.

Insurance came for the Camels 33 seconds into the third frame when Melissa Alexander got the puck past Lily O'Neil with help from Natalie Witkowski and Melanie Conca to pad the margin to a pair.

Suffolk looked to get one back. Carley Denora denied all seven shots the Rams put on target over the next 15 minutes. With her team trailing by two, Taylor Wasylk used a timeout to come up with a game plan.

Out of the huddle, O'Neil was pulled from the pipes to add an extra skater in the hopes of getting a goal back. Once again Denora stood up to the test even when Suffolk got another extra skater after Abby Munger was whistled for hooking with 2:48 left in regulation. Despite having two more sets of skates then the Camels, it was the visitors that would score one more over the final two minutes as Miyazaki slipped a short-handed empty netter past the line to seal the 3-0 score.

NETMINDER NOTES

  • O'Neil had a 17-save effort in the setback.
  • Denora finished with 24 stops in the victory.
