Cote Collects CCC Player of the Week

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Shana Cote had a historic opening-week to her senior season as she became the inaugural Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week after a six-point performance in a 2-0-0 week for the Rams, the league office announced Monday. 

Cote, a forward from Broomfield, Colorado, had one of the strongest starts to a season in the Rams' record books with four goals and two helpers in a 2-0-0 opening weekend, which if the best start in Suffolk women's hockey history.  

In the season debut, she lefty found the back of the net twice and handed out one assist as the Rams skated past Plymouth State, 5-2. Both of her goals came on special teams as she became the first Ram to score a power play goal in the opener and first to pot a short-handed tally in the season-opening game. One of her goals against the Panthers was also the game winner. 

A day later at UMass Boston, she had a matching stat line with two more goals and one handout to help put together a comeback win at UMass Boston, 5-4. Both of her strikes came with a man-up opportunity. 

The weekly award is Cote's third in her collegiate career, second time she was name the best player over a seven day stretch and first since she garnered New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Player of the Week Nov. 11 2019. She is the only Suffolk skater to ever be tabbed the best player in a week's span in the Rams' record book. Her third weekly accolade ties Kristen Caporusso for the program record of weekly recognitions own by a single student-athlete in the annals.  

Cote and Suffolk look to keep their winning ways going this weekend as the Rams are set for a home-and-home series with Worcester State. The series starts Friday, Nov. 6 at the Lancers' home ice, Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center at 6:10 p.m., before the battle comes to East Boston Saturday, Nov. 7 for a 4:50 p.m. puck drop.
