BOSTON – Suffolk women's golf looks to reclaim the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship this weekend when it heads to Rexford, New York, to battle with its conference counterparts at the Edison Club.

Suffolk women's golf finished eighth at the Martin & Wallace Invitational Sunday, April 13 at the Cortland Country Club.

THE COURSE
The Edison Club golf course was laid out in 1926 by the legendary Devereux Emmet, whose other creations included Congressional Country Club, host to three U.S. Opens and a PGA Championship.  

Nestled on the rolling hills above the bluffs of the Mohawk River are 27 holes of championship golf that tests all skill levels. For more information, click here

RAMS AT THE EDISON CLUB

  • Suffolk has competed at The Edison Club Twice, a head-to-head match with NWGC foe SUNY Cortland May 1, 2021 and the 2022 NWGC Championship. 
  • As a team, Suffolk's best one-day score at The Edison Club is 365, which it achieved on day one of the 2022 NWGC Championships.
  • The Rams' lone two-day score at The Edison Club is a 751. 
  • A Rams 18-hole low at The Edison Club is an 82 held by Isabel Smith, which she achieved in the dual match against SUNY Cortland. 
  • A Rams best two-day score at The Edison Club is a 176 shot by Ellie Yarbrough at the 2022 NWGC Championship.
  • Smith, Yarbrough and Sophie Kiley have all competed at The Edison Club already in their careers.

ABOUT THE NWGC
A new independent NCAA Division III women's golf conference was formed in 2019; the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) was approved by the NCAA Membership Committee. Suffolk is one of 14 members of the league along with SUNY Canton, SUNY Cortland, SUNY Cobleskill, Geneseo, Husson, Keene State, Keuka, Manhattanville, Mount Saint Mary, Nazareth, St. John Fisher, Utica and Westfield State. 

NWGC CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

  • The NWGC Championship is in its fourth year.  
  • Suffolk was the inaugural champion in 2019 when the Rams topped the seven-team field at the Tekoa Country Club in Westfield, Massachusetts. In 2019 the championship was one day. 
  • In 2020, the NWGC Championship went to a two-day event at the Colonie Country Club in Voorheesville, New York. The Rams finished third in the eight-team field in 2020 with a team score of 771. 
  • The league tournament returned to a one-day outing in 2021 at the Colonie Country Club in Voorheesville, New York. Suffolk secured second place in the six-team field with a team care of 381.
  • In 2022, Suffolk turned in a runner-up finish at the Edison Club. The Rams carded a 751 over the 36-hole, two-day tournament.
  • A year ago, the blue-and-gold captured third in the eight-team field with a two-day score of 718.

RAMS AT THE NWGC CHAMPIONSHIP

  • Now assistant coach Nicole Anotnucci was the inaugural NWGC Individual Champion in 2019. She earned the title as a sophomore in 2019 behind a card of 81 at the Tekoa Country Club in Westfield, Massachusetts. Aine Dillon (tied-2nd) and Brooke Chapman (5th) had top-five performances at the inaugural NWGC Championships in 2019 as well.
  • Chapman and Antonucci put together top-10 finishes at the 2020 championship, finishing sixth and ninth, respectively, to claim All-NWGC Second-Team honors, the first Rams to do so in program history.
  • In 2021, Ellie Yarbrough made the most on the first championship course of her collegiate career with a fourth-place performance behind a score of 90. Isabel Smith was one stroke behind Yarbrough in fifth and Antonucci shared sixth with a of 94. That threesome, Yarbrough, Smith and Antonucci, garnered All-NWGC honors. The three all-league selections are the most for the Rams in the two-year history that the awards have been handed out. 
  • Yarbrough and Smith compiled top 10 finishes in 2022, taking sixth and 10th, respectively, to earn spots on the second team. 
  • In 2023, Yarbrough turned in a top-3 finish after shooting a 79 each day on the course at Wintonbury Hills en route to All-NWGC First-Team distinction. Smith was just outside the league's second-team with a 12th-place performance in the 43-golfer fielder that featured Sophie Kiley, who placed 22nd. 

ALL-NWGC

  • The top five individual finishers garner a spot on the All-NWGC First-Team, while the second group of five, finishers six through 10, secure spots on the league's second-team
