Women’s Golf Sweeps NWGC Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the first time in program history, Suffolk women's golf swept a league's weekly awards as Isabel Smith and Brooke Bugajewski were named player and rookie of the week, respectively, by the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC). The awards come after the Rams performances at the Ithaca Invitational Sept. 16-17.

Smith, a senior captain from Westford, Massachusetts, led the Rams at the invite. She carded an opening round score of seven-over par of 79 and shaved five strokes off that performance on the second day of play to finish with a 153, good for fourth place overall in the 40-golfer pack. The 18-hole 74 score is not only a personal record for Smith but is an individual program best for any Suffolk women's golfer.

Bugajewski, meanwhile, made her collegiate debut at the invite. The freshman from Bloomfield, Michigan shared 11th at the RaNic Golf Club with a two-day score of 165.

The twosome helped Suffolk shot a program-best 18-hole record each day at the meet with a 326 on Saturday before shooting a combined 316 on Sunday to claim second in the six-team field with a two-day card of 642.

Smith is the first Ram to be named the best conference player over a seven-day stretch since her co-captain Ellie Yarbrough took home the recognition April 20, 2023. It is the fourth time in her collegiate career that Smith collected the feat. Bugajewski's first collegiate weekly nod marks the first time in the Rams' record book a Suffolk student-athlete was tabbed the league's rookie of the week.

Suffolk is back in action this Saturday, Sept. 23 when it faces Keene State in a head-to-head match at the Keene Country Club at 12 p.m.
