Women’s Golf to Compete at Cortaca Northeast Invitational this Weekend


BOSTON – Suffolk women's golf heads up to the Empire State this weekend for the Cortaca Northeast Invitational. Saturday, Sept. 25 will be played at the RaNic Golf Club, formerly The Country Club of Ithaca, with Sunday, Sept. 26's action set to take place at the Cortland Country Club.

SUFFOLK ATHLETICS 2021-22 FAN POLICY
Suffolk University Athletics, following guidance from the University's health and safety protocols, Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), Centers for Disease Control and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, plans to allow fans to attend home athletic contests during the 2021-22 academic and athletic year.

Fans, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, can attend games. They must be masked the entire time they are on campus, pursuant to institutional policy, and complete a health screening form at the security desk of each building upon arrival. This policy applies to home contests played on campus at the Ridgeway Building's Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court, as well as the Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink and the Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

For outdoor outings, specifically at East Boston Memorial Park, fans are asked to respect COVID safety protocols. At this time, masks will not be mandated for fans no matter vaccinated status at outdoor venues.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's golf won the head-to-head, two-day battle with Husson to capture the Husson Invitational title at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course over the weekend. The Rams shot 728 in Vacation land compared to the Eagles 766.

THE COURSE – RaNIC GOLF CLUB
RaNic Golf Club is a semi-private par 72 course that is seamlessly routed to test golfer's skills by demanding accuracy, power, finesse and ultimately strategy.  

THE COURSE – CORTLAND COUNTRY CLUB
Cortland Country Club is among picturesque hills of Central New York. 

The par-72 course is a favorite for tournaments. Overall, there are three different markers for women – Blue (76.7 slope), White (74.7 slope) and Red (72.0 slope).  

THE COMPETITION
Suffolk will be joined by 14 different programs over the weekend including Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) members SUNY Cortland, SUNY Canton, Nazareth, Westfield State, Manhattanville and St. John Fisher. Also on the green in upstate will be Ithaca, Hamilton, Delhi, Vassar, Westminster, Cabrini, Union and Geneseo.  

RAMS RECOGNITION
Isabel Smith received not just one, but two NWGC Player of the Week nods for her effort on the course this season. The sophomore was named the conference's inaugural player of the week for her performance over Sept. 1-12 and repeated as the same title a week later. 

The pair of nods marks the first time in program history that a Ram collected multiple weekly awards in the record books.
