Women’s Golf Finishes Seventh at William Smith Invitational

CLIFTON, N.Y. – In its first two-day competition of 2017, the Suffolk women's golf team placed seventh overall at the William Smith Invitational hosted by William & Smith at Clifton Springs Country Club over the weekend. 

The Rams carded a team score of 378 over the final 18 holes, paired with a 391 in the first round to finish with a combined 769 for seventh place in the 11-team event. Iselle Ventura, Brooke Champman, Aine Dillon, McKenzie McGrath and Olivia Spiega took the course for Suffolk with Ventura leading the pack. 

Ventura was off to a fast start in the par-72, 5,804-yard course, putting up an 89 on day one. In the second round, the freshman fired a 93 for a total of 138, which put her in 19th. 

Champman shed one stroke off her day one score of 95 to complete the course in 29th with a score of 189. Dillon tied with St. John Fisher's Victoria Maddalone in 39th as the sophomore tallied a 196. 

Spiega finished three strokes behind her teammate McGrath, who placed 42nd with a 202, to round out the Rams in 44th. 

Suffolk is back in action this upcoming weekend as it competes at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational at the The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Over the two days, the Rams will face Westfield State in head-to-head action as well.
