Women’s Golf Takes Down RIC for First-Ever Win

CANTON, Mass. – Multiple firsts were checked off for Suffolk women's golf Sunday afternoon. In the Rams' first competition of 2017, their first-ever home match, the blue-and-gold collected the program's first win, defeating Rhode Island College, 354-371, at Brookmeadow Country Club. 

The Rams locked up the victory after an 18-hole day with 354 points, while the Anchormen shot 371. 

Suffolk sported the individual winner as well as freshman Brooke Champman made the most of her collegiate debut, shooting 43 over the first nine and an impressive 40 on the back to finish the day with an 83, four strokes ahead of second-place finisher. 

Classmate Iselle Ventura recorded an 87 to finish in a three-way tie for second with Rhode Island's Megan Mahan and Nicole Langella. 

Sophomore Aine Dillon locked up fifth individually with an 88, while rookie Olivia Spiega rounded out the Rams' point earners with a 96, good for sixth. 

Freshman Nicole Antonucci and junior McKenzie McGrath also took the course for Suffolk Sunday, finishing with a 101 and 113, respectively. 

Suffolk heads back out this upcoming weekend for its first two-day invitational of the season as the Rams head to Clifton, New York, where they will compete at the William Smith Invitational at the Clifton Springs Country Club.
