Women’s Basketball Secures Fourth Seed in CCC Tournament

CCC BRACKET | CCC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk women's basketball clinched a spot in the 2024 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament as the league announced the Rams are the fourth seed in the seven-team bracket.

Suffolk will make its third straight trip to the CCC postseason and the program's 28th consecutive league playoff push, all of which have come under head coach Ed Leyden. The Rams are in the hunt for their first conference crown in program history.

The Rams head into the CCC field as the fourth seed for the second time, first since 2021-22. The ranking comes after the blue-and-gold compiled a 12-4 league ledger, which ties the most conference wins for Suffolk in its three-year tenure in the CCC.

Suffolk tied Roger Williams in the conference standings, however, the Hawks gained the third spot after the tiebreaking procedure. The teams split in the regular-season and head identical head-to-head records versus conference counterparts so it came down to identical non-conference competition Hartford. RWU swept Hartford, while Suffolk split.

As the fourth seed, Suffolk welcomes fifth seed Endicott to Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court for the first round Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. The Gulls went 14-10 overall and 9-7 versus CCC foes.

In the regular season, Suffolk swept the two-game series with Endicott, both battles went into overtime.

The back-to-back wins over the Gulls were the first for the blue-and-gold since Feb. 19, 2022 and Dec. 3, 2022. Despite taking down Endicott in back-to-back battles, Suffolk trails the series, 16-17. The foes will battle in the postseason for the first time.

In its 27 tournament appearances, Suffolk has moved onto the semifinal a dozen times and competed in the championship five times. The Rams, however, have yet to advance in the CCC Tournament.

The winner of Tuesday's tilt will punch its ticket to the semifinals where it will face the tournament's top seed Western New England, who received a first-round bye, in Springfield, Massachusetts Thursday, Feb. 22.
