DeAngelis Grabs NEWBA Player of the Week

NEWBA RELEASE

NORTH HAMPTON, Mass. – Amanda DeAngelis of the Suffolk women's basketball team picked up her second weekly recognition after her standout performance over a 2-0 week for the Rams as the senior captain scooped up New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week.

The forward from Londonderry, New Hampshire averaged a double-double of 27.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.

DeAngelis got the week underway with a 22-point, 12-rebound, six-assist performance in a 91-59 win over Gordon Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Four days later at Endicott, DeAngelis cemented her spot in Suffolk women's basketball history. When she went to Beverly, Massachusetts she needed 15 points to hit the 1,000-point milestone. She eclipsed the feat in the second quarter on a free throw and went on to end the 82-76 overtime victory with a career-best 32 points on an impressive 60.9 conversion rate (14-23) from the floor. Her stat line in the overtime triumph included 13 caroms, two assists, two blocks and one steal.

DeAngelis became the 18th player to eclipse the 1,000-point feat in the Rams' record books. She is the second this season as Lauren Romito reached the feature Tuesday, Jan. 23 versus Gordon. The duo is the first Suffolk teammates to hit the 1K mark in the same season since Jenni-Rose DiCecco and Alexis Hackett did so as a junior and senior, respectively, in 2019-20. Additionally, DeAngelis is the 13th Suffolk women's basketball to surpass 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in their career.

The weekly recognition from the NEWBA is DeAngelis second nod for her efforts versus the Fighting Scots and Gulls as she was tabbed the Commonwealth Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week yesterday, Monday, Jan. 29. The accolade from NEWBA is DeAngelis third of the year as she received spots on the honor roll twice thus far, Nov. 15 and Nov. 28 Suffolk women's basketball's senior captain Amanda DeAngelis garnered Commonwealth Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week after averaging a double-double of 27.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Rams, the league office announced Monday.
