Romito Reaches 1,000, Women’s Basketball Storms Past Gordon, 91-59

BOSTON – Lauren Romito hit her 1,000 collegiate career point as Suffolk women's basketball saw six players supply double figures to a convincing 91-59 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Gordon Tuesday night at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 91 | Gordon 59
RECORDS: Suffolk (13-5, 7-3 CCC) | Gordon (3-15, 2-7 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Solid start from Suffolk as it jumped out to a comfortable 15-0 cushion in the first 4:40 that forced Gordon into a timeout. In the opening stretch, Amanda DeAngelis supplied seven points, while Colby Guinta buried a pair of buckets from behind-the-arc.

The huddle helped the Fighting Scots as they found their way on the scoreboard on their next possession. That hoop started a 6-0 run to cut the Rams lead down to single digits, 15-6.

Six straight Suffolk points restored the 15-point gap, 21-8, with 3:19 remaining in the opening quarter. Action evened out the rest of the way with the Rams up 11, 26-15 at the end of the first frame.

The Rams piled on the points to push their advantage to as many as 25, 49-24, with 2:37 left before halftime. Back-and-forth action allowed the blue-and-gold to go into the break in front 53-29.

Thanks to its hefty halftime lead, Suffolk remained in front with three quarters in the books, 74-46.

Romito recorded her milestone momentum on the Rams first possession of the fourth quarter when she banked in a layup, which padded the margin to 32, 78-46.

Suffolk coasted on cruise control the rest of the way as see-saw action consumed the remained of the conference clash.
