Women’s Basketball Outlasts Endicott in Overtime, 71-64

BOSTON – In a game that featured 17 lead exchanges and eight tied scores, including a 56-all game at the end of regulation, Suffolk women's basketball outscored Endicott, 15-8, in the overtime to hand the Gulls a 71-64 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) setback Tuesday night at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 71 | Endicott 64
RECORDS: Suffolk (6-1, 2-1 CCC) | Endicott (1-5, 1-2 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The back-and-forth affair was present from the get-go. The lead flipped five times with Suffolk gaining the least edge 9-6 on an Amanda DeAngelis layup that turned into a 20-15 advantage at the end of the first 10 minutes.

The Gulls got the lead back by outscoring the blue-and-gold, 10-4, in the first four minutes. The teams traded hoops to close out the second and a one-possession game was intact as the teams headed to the locker rooms with Suffolk trailing by three, 36-33.

Endicott managed to build a five-point cushion, 46-41, after the third, but that gap was short lived as Suffolk evened things at 46-all thanks to a Lauren Romito jumper and a triple by Madi Mahoney three minutes into the fourth frame.

Hoop-for-hoop action kept the Gulls in front before Ava Thurman's driving lay-up sent Suffolk ahead, 53-52, with 3:48 remaining in regulation.

It was a nail bitter finish as Endicott leapt in front with 1:27 to go before Colby Guinta knocked down a trey at with eight seconds on the clock.

Endicott managed to draw up a perfect sideline play with 5.4 seconds left that ended in an Emma Shinney layup that tied things at 56 at the conclusion of 40 minutes.

The Gulls would be the first team to strike in the extra session and the same story of see-saw action continued.

Momentum shifted in Suffolk's favor when Romito converted a traditional three-point play to give the host the upper hand, 61-60.

The Rams would not give up the lead the rest of the way as they outscored the Gulls 10-3 the rest of the way to seal up the thrilling victory.
