Moreau Named NEWBA Rookie, DeAngelis Tabbed NEWBA Weekly First-Team

NEWBA RELEASE

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Suffolk women's basketball was well-represented on the New England Women's Basketball Association's (NEWBA) weekly awards as Jordan Moreau was named NEWBA Rookie of the Week and Amanda DeAngelis earned a spot on the regional organization's weekly first team thanks to their performances in the 97-93 overtime win over Salve Regina.

DeAngelis tuned in a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double in the thrilling victory. The senior forward shot 6-for-9 from the floor and 7-for-10 at the line. She added seven steals, matched a career-high three blocks and dished out a pair of dimes.

Moreau, meanwhile, contributed 16 points on a 5-for-9 showing from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 performance at the charity stripe. The freshman chipped in nine caroms, three handouts and two swats. She set a new career-high numbers in points (16), field goals made (5), rebounds (9), assists (3) and blocks (2). Along with her NEWBA weekly honor, Moreau was recognized for her efforts versus the Seahawks by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) as the league's Rookie of the Week.

The duo was crucial to Suffolk's win that pushed the Rams to 3-0 on the year, its best start since 2011-12.

Moreau is the first Ram to be named NEWBA Rookie of the Week since Colby Guinta Nov. 30, 2022, while DeAngelis, who picked up her second NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll selection, is the second Suffolk student-athlete to receive a spot on the first team this season as Lauren Romito earned the feat last week, Nov. 21.

Since Suffolk's win over Salve Regina, the twosome and Rams took their talents to Salem, Massachusetts last night for a meeting with the Vikings of Salem State. The blue-and-gold soared past SSU, 79-61, to move to 4-0 on the season.

The Rams aim to keep their winning ways going as they transition to CCC play tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Gordon at 5:30 p.m.
