Women’s Basketball Trio Earns CSC Academic All-District

CSC RELEASE

BOSTON – Three Suffolk women's basketball student-athletes grabbed College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors including graduate student Katie Kirsch, junior Amanda DeAngelis and sophomore Maddie Stewart

Awarded by College Sports Communications (CSC), formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to the most accomplished student-athletes for combined academic and athletic achievements each year since 1952, this is the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award for student-athletes to receive.

The 2023 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Teams, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. All nominees must have a GPA of at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), be a starter or important reserve, and have competed in at least 50 percent of a team's competition. Each program is eligible to nominate up to four student-athletes.

In the Rams' women's basketball record books, there has been one academic all-district honoree with this year's recipients joining Jenni-Rose DiCecco to earn the recognition. Suffolk now has 42 academic all-district distinctions in its history from CSC dating back to 2004, 31 of which have come over the last seven season including 18 this year alone.

Suffolk was joined by Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) counterparts Endicott (2), Wentworth (2), Gordon (1) and the University of New England (1) on the list. The three Rams are the most individuals by a CCC program of the 649 NCAA Division III women's basketball players to take home the feat in 2023.

Kirsch carried a 3.850 GPA as a graduate student working towards her Masters in Healthcare Management and Leadership. The center from Pelham, New Hampshire, has played in all 25 games this year. The captain has been a consistent contributor to Suffolk's offense and defensive with 9.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

A public relations major, DeAngelis holds a 3.75 GPA. The junior captain that calls Londonderry, New Hampshire home, averages a double-double of 16.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, both numbers top the team's statistically categories.

Stewart, a sophomore who hails from Conway, New Hampshire, owns a 3.518 GPA, while majoring in biology. She has been a staple in the Rams' line-up and has taken on the floor general role this year with 11.2 points and 3.6 assists per outing. Defensively, she is second on the squad with 8.4 rebounds per game.

All three Rams now advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Tuesday, March 14.

On the court, Suffolk turns its attention to the CCC Quarterfinals which tips off tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 21 when the seventh-seeded Rams take on second-seed University of New England in Biddeford, Maine at 7:00 p.m.
