Women’s Basketball Falls in Road Finale at WNE, 83-67

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In its final road test of the 2022-23 regular-season, Suffolk women's basketball dropped an 83-67 decision to Western New England Wednesday night at Alumni Healthful Living Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Bears got ahead early with a 32-20 lead after the first frame. Suffolk surged back as it won the second quarter, 17-10, to cut the deficit down to five, 42-37, as the teams headed into the locker room. 

Western New England restored a comfortable cushion in the first five minutes of the third quarter as it outscored Suffolk, 12-2, to put the Rams in a 54-39 hole. 

The blue-and-gold attempted to battle back, but the 15-point distance remained, 65-50, at the end of the third. 

A back-and-forth frame allowed the host to hold onto the advantage the rest of the way and lock up the 83-67 decision.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Maddie Stewart led Suffolk's scoring with a 14-point performance on a 5-for-7 showing from the floor. The sophomore's offensive output saw four handouts, one rebound and one steal. 
  • Katie Kirsch poured in 12 points, four boards and three assists. 
  • Amanda DeAngelis produced 12 points, on a 4-for-7 effort from the field with eight caroms off the bench. 
  • Colby Guinta was on the verge of double figures with a nine-point performance. She did not miss from downtown (2-2) and shot 3-for-6 on the evening. Her stat line featured three rebounds one assist and one steal. 
  • The Golden Bears outrebounded the Rams, 37-29.
