Salve Regina Storms Past Women’s Basketball, 62-42

NEWPORT, R.I. – Suffolk women's basketball had a sluggish showing on the offensive end to start its three-game road trip with a 62-42 setback to Salve Regina at the Rodgers Recreation Center Wednesday night.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 42 | Salve Regina 62
RECORDS: Suffolk (10-10, 5-8 CCC) | Salve Regina (13-7, 8-5 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk scored just two points in the first 10 minute on a pair of freebies from Amanda DeAngelis in the first 1:47 of play to level the playing field at 2-all. The Seahawks soared ahead from there with 15 unanswered points to make things lopsided in their favor, 17-2.

Madi Mahoney sunk Suffolk's first field goal of the day nine seconds into the second stanza, however, the early edge the Salve Regina helped the host remain ahead 26-11, with 2:21 left before halftime.

The Rams rallied together to wrap up play before going to the locker room as they outscored the Seahawks, 6-2, to trim the gap down to 11, 28-17.

Sharp shooting from long range by the Seahawks got the third quarter going, which extended the margin to 18, 37-19.

Momentum never shifted in Suffolk's favor and SRU grabbed its largest lead of the night, 42-21, at the 4:58 mark.

It was cruise control from there for the Seahawks as the Rams would not get the distance down to single digits the rest of the way.
