Endicott Edges Women’s Basketball, 57-49

BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Endicott, 57-49, Saturday afternoon at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 49 | Endicott 59
RECORDS: Suffolk (9-8, 4-6 CCC) | Endicott (7-10, 5-5 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk saw well-balanced scoring in the first quarter as six different Rams provided at least one point to help the host take a 13-12 edge with 10 minutes in the books.

Endicott, who scored three unanswered to cap off the opening frame, kept the pressure on and leveled the playing field at 15-all 1:33 into the second stanza.

From there, the lead switched three times with the last coming in the Gulls favor, 20-19, at the midway point of the second quarter.

After the playing field evened at 20 on an Amanda DeAngelis freebie, Endicott soared ahead to a five-point advantage with four minutes remaining before halftime that bloomed into a nine-point cushion, 36-27, when the teams headed to the locker rooms.

For every point the blue-and-gold put up, Kiley Drezek responded with a triple to put Suffolk in a 12-point hole, 42-30, at the 6:20 mark of the third quarter.

Ed Leyden used a timeout three seconds later to calm this team down. The huddle helped the host as the Rams put together a 14-5 run to close out the third frame and come back within one possession, 47-44. Maddie Stewart supplied half of the points in that run and DeAngelis pitched in traditional 3-point play.

The score stayed still for nearly three minutes as neither team managed to get into its offensive grove when the fourth frame started. Alyssa Garabedian made the front end of a two-shot trip the line and DeAngelis responded with a driving lay-up to keep things close, 48-46.

Another scoring draught came, this time two minutes were removed from the clock without a bucket from either side. Endicott found its scoring spark first as Tara Laugeni converted an old-school 3-point play and Emily St Thomas followed suit with a hoop from behind-the arc to give the Gulls an eight-point, 54-46, margin with 4:21 left on the clock.

Suffolk's offense did not pick up again the 3:06 mark when Stewart turned a DeAngelis' steal into two points. That would be the Rams' last hoop of the game though and the Gulls went on to take the conference contest, 57-49.
