DeAngelis Earns Spot on NEWBA Weekly First-Team

NEWBA RELEASE

BOSTON – Weekly awards continue to pour in for Suffolk women's basketball's Amanda DeAngelis as the Rams' junior captain was named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Weekly First-Team after averaging a double-double of 21.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game in a 3-0 week, the regional organization announced late Tuesday night.

DeAngelis, a native of Londonderry, New Hampshire, got the week going with an 18-point, 13-rebound effort in the second semester opener, a 55-50 triumph at Wentworth. In the first home bout of 2023, a 72-63 victory over Nichols, the forward matched a career-high 29 points and grabbed 12 boards, before concluding the week with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 67-55 win at Curry.

On top of being named to the NEWBA weekly first-team, DeAngelis took home Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week for her performance on the hardwood last week. Overall, she has collected four weekly awards this year evenly divided between CCC Player of the Week and a spot on the NEWBA weekly first-team.

In addition to DeAngelis, Suffolk has seen Colby Guinta earn five weekly accolades this year, three from the CCC, all rookie of the week nods, and two NEWBA Rookie of the Week distinctions.

Suffolk and DeAngelis wrap up a four-game homestay tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 12 when Lesley stops by Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court. The 5 p.m. matchup between the Rams and Lynx concludes the blue-and-gold's non-conference calendar.
