BOSTON – On the morning of the 2022-23 Commonwealth Coast Conference opener, Suffolk women's basketball's Colby Guinta grabbed her second weekly recognition of the week as she scooped up New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week following her performance at MIT November 21.
Guinta, a freshman from Manchester, New Hampshire, poured in a career-high 25 points on 9-for-11 showing from the floor that included a 3-for-4 performance from downtown to pace the Rams to a 75-72 victory over the Engineers. The triumph marks the ninth for Suffolk over MIT in the program's history.
The weekly accolade marks Guinta's third of the year. To go with this recognition, she was also awarded CCC Rookie of the Week for the same outing in addition to her first collegiate weekly award, the conference's best rookie over a seven-day stretch November 21. Guinta is the second Suffolk student-athlete to be recognized by the NEWBA this season as Amanda DeAngelis was named to the NEWBA First-Team November 23. The Rams own five weekly distinctions so far this season. Guinta and DeAngelis hold all five with three honors and a pair of nods, respectively.
Suffolk will lift the lid on its CCC calendar tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 30 when it welcomes Western New England to Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
