DiCecco Breaks Women’s Basketball Scoring Record in Win Over Fisher

BOSTON – Jenni-Rose DiCecco entered Friday's game one-point shy of passing the Rams' all-time scoring leader Katie Norton '00. The graduate student quickly claimed the blue-and-gold's prestigious title as she connected on a hoop 9:31 into the action against Fisher to become Suffolk women's basketball's all-time leading scorer on her home hardwood, Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court, in front of Ram Nation.

DiCecco, who now has 1,533 career points, paved the way in the Rams' 76-43 triumph over the Falcons Friday night that wrapped up Suffolk's first semester calendar.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 76 | Fisher 43
RECORDS: Suffolk (7-3) | Fisher (3-8)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk built an 8-4 lead in the first five minutes that grew to a 15-4 cushion out of a Rams' timeout as they rallied on a 7-0 stretch.

The distance remained at 11 points at the end of the first 10 minute as DiCecco's record-breaking hoop with 29 seconds remaining in the first frame made it into a 19-9 game.

There was more back-and-forth action in the second stanza. Suffolk never truly let Fisher fight back though and the host led by a dozen, 35-23, at half.

The Falcons put the first points away out of the locker room before full-court pressure by the blue-and-gold turned into 10-2 stretch for the hosts that pushed the gap to 44-27 at the 6:05 minute mark. The Rams got hot from downtown as Allie Lopes and DiCecco converted long balls into buckets and Aisling Crowley put together a traditional three-point play to make it a 55-31 game with 2:08 left in the third. Fisher managed to score the final six of the quarter to trim things down to 55-37.

It was all Suffolk in the fourth as it outscored the Falcons 21-6 for the final 76-43 margin.

NOTEWORTHY

  • DiCecco became Suffolk's all-time leading scorer, surpassing the previous mark of 1,516 career points held by Norton for the past 21 years since 2000.
  • DiCecco hit the milestone mark in her 100th collegiate game. She is the 20th Ram in Suffolk history to play in 100-plus games in their careers.
  • The record marks the third Suffolk women's basketball DiCecco sits atop of as she reset the all-time assists and steals mark in the same game a year ago a 71-42 win over Curry March 12, 2021.
  • DiCecco is also the 11th Ram in Suffolk women's basketball history to score 1000 points and pull down 500 rebounds. She is the first to do so since Georgia Bourikas did so Feb. 10, 2018 against Regis.
  • Suffolk and Fisher met for the first time in program history.
  • Noyes notched a personal-best eight rebounds.
  • Crowley produced a career-high eight points.
