Women’s Basketball Opens Road Swing with 70-43 Win at Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Suffolk women's basketball jump started its three-game road trip with a 70-43 decision over Plymouth State at Foley Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Plymouth State put away the first hoop of the game, Suffolk stormed ahead with 16 unanswered points to gain a 16-2 advantage 6:32 into the action. The Rams kept the Panthers in single digits over the remainder of the first frame to hold a 20-point, 28-8 edge early on.  

Suffolk kept the hosts at a double digit for the entire second stanza. The Panthers did make things interesting as they trimmed the margin down to 11, 35-24, at half time. 

The teams traded hoops over the first 1:11 out of the break to keep the margin manageable, 40-30. Allies Lopes knocked down a shot from downtown to ignite an 11-0 Suffolk stretch that restored a 20-point cushion, 51-30, at the 4:20 minute mark.  

PSU attempted another comeback, but the third quarter ended the way it started, with back-and-forth action, which allowed the Rams to take a 56-36 lead into the fourth.  

See-saw action carried into the final quarter and the Rams put the game away on the free throw line.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Natalie Fraioli had an all-around outing of 15 points behind a 5-for-7 showing from the field, which included a 2-for-3 effort from three-point land and 3-for-3 showing at the charity stripe. The senior added six rebounds, one assist and one steal. 
  • Jenni-Rose DiCecco was on the verge of triple double with 10 points, eight dimes and seven steals with a trio of caroms to her credit as well. 
  • Lopes logged double-digits in scoring with 12 points on a 4-for-8 afternoon from the floor and 2-for-3 effort on the long ball. 
  • Emily Welling's effort was well-balanced with seven points and seven boards to go along with two blocks, two steals and one helper. 
  • Amanda Deangelis supplied eight rebounds and six points off the bench. 
  • Suffolk shot 37.3 percent (22-59) from the floor, 40.0 percent (6-15) from the line and 69.0 (20-29) at the line. 
  • The Rams outrebounded the Panthers, 45-34.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk ran its third win in a row. 
  • The Rams defeated the Panthers for the second time in program history and second straight meeting. 
  • Suffolk is now 2-4 all-time against Plymouth State. 
  • The Rams remain unbeaten, 1-0, when playing Plymouth State with Ed Leyden on the bench. 
  • Suffolk picked up its first-ever win over the Panthers in Plymouth, New Hampshire.
