Women's Basketball Fall In Second Half Opener

The Middlebury College Panthers topped the Suffolk University Women's Basketball team, 60-44 on Tuesday evening in non-conference action. Senior Tracy Borsinger (Chatham, N.J.) led all scorers with 18 points as the Panthers improve to a 7-5 overall record as Suffolk drops the opener of the second half of their season.

Middlebury was able to force 15 Suffolk turnovers in the game that they converted into 24 points which was the difference in the contest.

It was a slow first half for both teams and Middlebury took a 26-22 edge into the break. Sophomore Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) led the way for the Rams as she scored her teams' first 10 points of the contest in the opening eight minutes of the game to finish with 12 in the half. Quadri would end up with a team-high 18 in the contest.

Middlebury finished the game with three players in double digits in scoring, including Borsinger. Junior Katie Pett (Sagniaw, Mich.) finished the game with a double-double as she scored 10 points and led all players with 10 rebounds.  Sophomore Rachel Crews (South Burlington, Vt.) scored eight of her game's 12 points in the second half for the Panthers.

The Panthers would go on a 13-0 run early in the second half capped by a three-pointer by senior Kate Logan (Washington Crossing, Pa.). Borsinger would then put the Panthers up by their largest lead of 19-points with a three-pointer of her own at the 9:29 mark to make it a 46-27 game.

Junior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) scored 13 points for the Rams and had a team-high seven rebounds.

Middlebury held a 42-30 advantage in the contest on the glass.

Middlebury College will be back in action on Friday evening as they host Connecticut College at 8:00pm. Suffolk will travel to Worcester State University on Thursday afternoon for a 12:00pm matchup with the Lancers before opening up their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule on Saturday when they host St. Joseph University of Connecticut at the Regan Gymnasium beginning at 1:00pm.
