Women's Basketball Selected to ECAC Tournament

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team were selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division-III New England Women's Basketball tournament.

The Rams will enter the eight-team single elimination tournament as the number five seed and will travel to fourth-seeded Colby Sawyer College on Wednesday, February 29 for a 7:00pm tipoff.

Suffolk's selection is their sixth consecutive bid into the New England tournament. The Rams post an 18-9 overall mark for the 2011-12 season and finished fourth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with a 10-3 conference mark. Suffolk fell to the Emmanuel College Saints, 87-58 in the league's semifinals round of their conference tournament. The Saints wound end up winning their sixth straight league title with a 68-57 victory over St. Joseph's College (ME) and earned a bid into the NCAA Division-III Women's Basketball tournament.

Colby-Sawyer rounded out the 2011-12 season with a 21-7 overall mark as they posted a 15-3 record in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) league action. The Chargers advanced to the NAC Tournament finals before falling to Castleton State College, 65-51 in the championship game. They will be making their program's seventh appearance in the ECAC tournament, and first since the 2008-09 season.

It will be the second meeting of the season between the Rams and Chargers. Suffolk hosted Colby-Sawyer on December 6 and came away with a 63-61 victory.

It will be the fourth meeting between the two teams in the past four seasons, with the home team being victorious in the previous three matchups.

Wednesday's matchup with be played at the Hogan Sports Center on the campus of Coby-Sawyer College. The winner will advance to Saturday's semifinals and face the winner of the top-seeded Keene State College/Regis College game.
