BOSTON – Suffolk softball begins its quest for the 2024 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Tuesday, May 7 when the sixth-seeded Rams face seventh-seed University of New England in the Play-In game at 11:00 a.m. at the Golden Bears Softball Park on the campus of Western New England in Springfield, Massachusetts.

SUFFOLK IN THE CCC TOURNAMENT

  • Suffolk will make its third straight trip to the CCC Tournament. 
  • The Rams will enter the CCC postseason as the sixth seed for the first time. 
  • Suffolk looks for its first win in the CCC Tourney in program history. 
  • The Rams are 0-2 when playing at Golden Bears Softball Park in the CCC Tournament.  

SUFFOLK IN CONFEREENCE POSTSEASON ACTION

  • The Rams will make their 23rd trip to the postseason, third straight. 
  • Suffolk owns one conference crown to its credit, the inaugural Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title in 1996. 
  • Suffolk is the sixth seed in a conference tournament for the second time in program history, first in its CCC tenure and first since 2008, when it played as the sixth seed in the GNAC Tournament. 
  • The Rams are 0-1 when playing in a league tournament as the sixth seed. 
  • The blue-and-gold has never hoisted a league banner when an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament has been on the line. 
  • Suffolk is in search for its first postseason win since besting Emmanuel, 4-3, in eight innings in the GNAC Semifinals May 6, 2018. 

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk has split its last three doubleheaders to wrap up the regular-season 18-22 overall.  

Becky Zellin has brought in a team-high 26 runs on 36 hits including 12 doubles and six homers. She has scored 24 runs herself. Julia Mills has supplied a squad-best 42 hits to go along with 24 RBI and 17 runs scored. Catherine Carignan rounds out the top three threats at the plate for the blue-and-gold with 40 hits, 20 RBI and 19 runs scored.  

In the circle, it is likely that Suffolk cycles through its usual two starters Lily Newhall (92.1 IP, 3.18 ERA, 34 K) and Cynthia Rucinski (98.0 IP, 4.79 ERA, 78 K). 

NOR'EASTER NOTES
UNE was swept by Husson in its regular-season finale and fell in four of its last five games of the year to hold a 12-18 overall record on the season.  

Emma Michaud's bat leads the way with 21 RBI on 38 hits and 19 runs scored. Hannah Irons and Becca Dumont have brought in 12 runs each. Dumont has provided 38 hits and scored 16 runs and Irons has 35 hits and 19 runs scored to her credit. 

The Nor'Easters use three hurlers in the circle in Mo Kinsella (3.60 ERA, 102.0 IP, 55 K), Kara MacDonald (84.1 IP, 6.14 ERA, 30 K) and Liv Arvidson (46.1 IP, 6.35 ERA, 17 K). 

WE MEET AGAIN
Suffolk split a regular season twinbill at the University of New England April 15. The Rams defeated the Nor'Easters 7-6, in eight innings in game one before being shutout in game two, 2-0.
