Softball Falls to Wentworth in Game 2, 6-2

EAST BOSTON – All the scoring game in the first three innings and Suffolk softball never found its way out of a 6-2 hole to fall to Wentworth by a four-run margin in the nightcap of a Commonwealth Coast Conference double feature Sunday afternoon.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Wentworth 6
RECORDS: Suffolk (17-21, 7-9 CCC) | Wentworth (20-16, 8-6 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Errors cost Suffolk three runs as the Leopards leapt out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second.

The Rams trimmed the deficit down to one in the home half of the inning. Becky Zellin led off with a single down the right field line and one out later Julia Mills hit a near identical base hit in the same spot to put Rams on the corners. Mills swiped second and a WIT error when Bella Rocha-Medeiros put the ball in play allowed Zellin to score. Small ball by Diana Rucinski allowed Mills come in, which pulled the host within one, 3-2.

Another three-run inning by the Leopards in the top of the third extend the margin to four. Once again blue-and-gold fielding mishaps paid off for the visitors as they used two hits and three Rams errors to put Suffolk in a 6-2 hole.

The score hit a standstill from there as neither team took advantage of their base runs.

Down four in the bottom of the seventh, Jolie Quintana mustered a two-out double in the hopes of sparking a Rams rally. Wentworth had other things in mind though as the Leopards center fielder gloved the ball when Catherine Carignan put it into play to seal Suffolk's setback.
