BOSTON – Suffolk softball has an action-packed weekend with a trip to Endicott scheduled for Saturday, April 27 before a home outing against Wentworth. Both Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheaders will begin at 12:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
A five-run fifth inning by the Hawks was the difference maker for Suffolk softball as it fell to Roger Williams, 7-3, in the nightcap of a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader at Paolino Field Sunday.

RAMS RUNDOWN
A three-game skid put Suffolk at 15-19 on the year and 5-7 versus CCC competition.  

Julia Mills (36), Catherine Carignan (33) and Ella Turnbull (30) have all notched 30-plus hits this season, but its Becky Zellin's bat, that has produced 28 hits, that has brought in the most runs, 22. Mills and Turnbull, meanwhile, have 20 RBI apiece and Carignan has plated 17. Run wise, Maddie Southers has scored a team-high 28 times. Lily Gustafson and Zellin have also scored 20-plus times as well with 24 runs and 20 runs, respectively.  

Lily Newhall (76.2 IP, 3.29 ERA, 28 K) and Cynthia Rucinski (85.0 IP, 4.45 ERA, 68 K) have seen the most time in the circle. Ashlyn Conley (30.1 IP, 6.46 ERA, 7 K) has seen more time as of late. 

GET TO KNOW THE GULLS
Endicott has compiled an impressive 20-9 overall record and 11-1 league ledger. The Gulls were swept in a doubleheader Tuesday at Babson.  

Chloe Shapleigh has hit the 30-hit mark to pace Endicott's powerful 152-run offense. The junior has brought in 28 hits and scored 21 herself. Katie Watts has supplied 27 hits, 24 runs and 16 RBI, while Christina Nowicki (23 H, 14 R, 12 RBI) and Mia Mitchell (21 H, 13 RBI, 10 R) are consistent contributors to the Gulls offense as well.  

In the circle, Endicott's staff has combined for a 1.98 ERA. Jaylin Couto and Kristen Beebe are the usual starts for the Gulls. Couto boasts a 1.97 ERA over 71.0 innings with 77 strikeouts and Beebe boasts a 1.99 ERA in 63.1 frames of work with 60 punchouts. Analise Grady (29.2 IP, 27 K) also hods a sub-2.00 ERA of 1.42, while Hadley Marchand's (16.2 IP, 11 K) ERA is just over 2.00 at 2.10.  

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • The Rams are 6-14 all-time against the Gulls. 
  • The blue-and-gold has fallen in three straight games against Endicott, all of which have been five-inning, mercy-rule decisions.
  • Suffolk is in search for its first win over Endicott since a 6-5 decision April 24, 2022. 
  • Five of the six Rams' victories have come when playing the Gulls on the road, 5-10. 
  • Six of the 20 battles between Suffolk and Endicott have been determined via shutout, including the last meeting, a 9-0, five-inning, Suffolk setback April 26, 2023.

LEOPARDS LOOK
Wentworth has won five games in a row to carry a 19-13 overall record and 7-3 CCC mark into Saturday.  

Kyla Igawa (42 H, 25 RBI, 20 R), Kaitlin Pettenger (37 H, 8 RBI, 23 R) and Kaitlin Pettenger (37 H, 34 R, 13 RBI)are the top three threats offensively for the Leopards. 

Julia Schriver appears to be WIT's ace with a 2.11 ERA in 119.0 innings and 108 strikeouts. She has appeared in 23 games with 16 starts with 13 complete games. Jess Rowe is the other main starter for Wentworth with a 3.01 ERA in 90.2 innings with 53 punchouts.
