Softball Tripped Up in Game 1 at Roger Williams, 5-2

BRISTOL, R.I. – Suffolk softball fell behind early and never climbed out the hole as Roger Williams handed the Rams a 5-2 game one Commonwealth Coast Conference loss Sunday afternoon at Paolino Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Roger Williams 5
RECORDS: Suffolk (15-18, 5-6 CCC) | Roger Williams (13-14, 3-6 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Roger Williams put Suffolk in a 4-0 hole in the first frame. The Hawks used four hits, half for extra bases, a walk and a sac fly to force the Rams to play from behind early on.

Suffolk managed to cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth when Bella Rocha-Medeiros barreled a two-run shot to left field to make it 4-2. The sophomore plated her classmate Maddie Southers, who led off the frame with a single.

The Hawks regained a three-run margin in the home half of the fifth. K Burr doubled down the right field line to get the inning underway, which forced Suffolk to make a change in the circle as Ashlyn Conley came in to take over for Ella Turnbull. A productive ground out by J Wells moved Burr to third in time for K O'Connor's long out to right that made it a 5-2 game.

The Rams managed to get a base runner in the sixth and seventh, respectively, but could not rally around the runners to suffer the setback.
