Zellin Named CCC Player of the Week

CCC RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Becky Zellin of the Suffolk softball team was named Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week thanks to her efforts in the Rams' doubleheader sweep of Beantown rival Emerson.

The Danvers, Massachusetts, product compiled a .571/.625/1.143 slash line in the 2-0 week for the blue-and-gold with four hits, half of which were good for extra bases, five RBI, four runs scored and one walk.

Zellin, a right-handed hitter, started the cross town twibill with a 3-for-4 effort that featured a two-run dinger, her second long ball of the season. The three hits were a new career high for the junior. She finished the 9-2 season-opening triumph with three RBI and two runs scored, both of which tied a personal-best.

In the nightcap with the scored locked at 6-all in the top of the seventh, Zellin barreled a two-round double to right center to push Suffolk in front en route to a 12-6 victory. That two-bagger was her lone hit of the outing as the designated player. She finished game two with one hit, two RBI, two runs and one walk.

The weekly recognition is the first of Zellin's career and marks the second time this season a Ram was tabbed the CCC's Player of the Week as Catherine Carignan took home the distinction March 11. It is the first time Suffolk has seen multiple weekly awards since 2022 when it collected four (two rookie, one player, one pitcher). Player of the week wise, it is the first time in the CCC tenure that multiple Rams were named the league's best player over a seven-day stretch. The last time Suffolk has taken home numerous player of the week accolades was 2018 when Delaney Sylvester '18 was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week twice.

Zellin and the Rams return to action this week with a Thursday, March 28 twinbill at UMass Boston on the docket. Game one has a 2:30 p.m. first pitch.
