Softball Run Rules Haverford in Five, 13-5

CLERMONT, Fla. – Ten unanswered Rams runs over the second and third innings helped catapult Suffolk softball to a 13-5, five-inning victory over Haverford at Legends Way Sunday at The Spring Games.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 13 | Haverford 5
RECORDS: Suffolk (3-3) | Haverford (0-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk found itself down four after the top of the first.

The Rams offense started to find its grove in the second as they batted around to flip the script in its favor, 6-4. Singles by Ella TurnbullAva Brandow and Lily Gustafson singled to juice the bags in time for Becky Zellin two run double to left field to bring in a pair. Lily Newhall followed with a triple to right center to make it a one-run game. After the first out, Jolie Quintana wore a pitch before Catherine Carignan brought the tying run in a single to center. Quintana was responsible for the go-ahead run thanks to Julia Mills' base hit through the left side.

Suffolk extended the margin in the third. Gustafson, who walked, stole second and took third on a wild pitch, strutted in a boot from the right fielder to put the first tally of the inning up. Then, with runners in the corners, Maddie Southers lofted a no doubter to left field to clear the bags and make it a 10-4 game. Haverford made a change in the circle as Anna Stowe took over for Kayleigh Bod. Stowe got two quick outs, gave up two hits, before ending the damage as she sat down Ava Brandow swinging.

The Fords got a run back in the fifth, but the Rams responded with three in the home half of the inning to seal the mercy-rule decision. Suffolk's last three runs of the outing came on Zellin's second double of the outing and a Haverford error.
