BOSTON – Suffolk softball flew to the Sunshine State to lift the lid on its 41st campaign. A dozen games at The Spring Games await the Rams in Central Florida March 8-15.

A LOOK BACK

Suffolk's third season in the CCC saw the Rams go 10-24 overall and earn a spot in the league's postseason for the second third time in as many years behind a 7-11 league ledger.  

RAMS RETURNERS
Nine Rams are back in blue-and-gold this season highlighted by two-time All-CCC honoree junior Ava Brandow. Brandow is joined by her classmates Ashlyn ConleyDelaney DoidgeLily GustafsonJulia NewcombDiana RucinskiElla TurnbullBecky Zellin and Jolie Quintana, 2022 CCC Rookie of the Year is returns after a season missed due to injury. 

Sophomores Catherine CarignanMaddie Southers and Bella Rocha-Medeiros and senior Lily O'Neil have one collegiate season under their belts as well.  

RAMS ROOKIES
Suffolk softball will see new faces on the field and one on the bench as first-year head coach Megan Cook announced nine newcomers have joined the Rams' roster for 2024.  

The group features seven true freshmen in Maddie BaitaSara ButeraKatie HaleyAshley HubnerHannah McHaleJulia Mills and Cynthia Rucinski. Sophomore Charis Fenter will begin her collegiate career with the Rams, while her classmate Lily Newhall brought her talents to Beacon Hill from Saint Anselm.

GEOGRPAHY 101
Suffolk's geographical makeup spreads six stats. Ten Rams are Massachusetts products with three coming to the Bay State from New Hampshire and Rhode Island, respectively. A pair hail from Connecticut and New Jersey and one Ram flew cross country from California. 

CLASS CATEGORIES
The Rams 22-player roster is evenly divided between upper and lower classmen. There are nine juniors, seven freshmen, five sophomores and one senior.  

SKIPPERS SECTION
Megan Cook was announced as Suffolk softball's newest head coach in September 2023. She is the 12th head coach in the Rams' history.  

PRESEASON PREDICTIONS
The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) released the 2024 Softball Coaches' Preseason Poll Thursday morning and according to the panel of the nine CCC head coaches, Suffolk softball is slated to finish seventh.

LEADING OFF

  • Since 1987, Suffolk is 8-27 in the first game of the season. 
  • Starting in 1995 the Rams took a neutral field on day one of the year and have picked up six of their opening day victories on neutral turf. 
  • The Rams are in search for their first opening-day victory since 2019 when Suffolk defeated Rhodes, 4-3.
