WNE Walks Off Game 2 Against Softball, 5-4

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk softball fell to Western New England, 5-4, as the Golden Bears walked off the nightcap of the Commonwealth Coast Conference double feature Saturday at Golden Bears Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams traded runs in the second. Ally Cifaratta's single up the middle brought in the Rams first run of the day that was scored by Ava Brandow, who reached on a double to right center.  

Suffolk scored twice in the third to grab the lead. With runners on second and third, Savannah Scripter brought both Rams in on a single to center. 

WNE evened the playing field by scoring once in the fourth and fifth respectively. 

A scoreless sixth set-up a thrilling seventh. Ira Boci barreled a double to right field and swiped third to get into prime scoring position. Scripter's bat came up big as the senior's 43 ground out allowed Boci to score and give the Rams the go-ahead run.  

The Golden Bears traded singles with outs to put a pair of runners with two dead. A walk filled the bags and the second straight base on balls leveled matters at 4-all. Janet Maguire brought Suffolk's starter Ashlyn Conley back to the circle. Kaleigh Blades connected on a single to left that plated the game-winning run for WNE.  

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Brandow took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout in less than an inning of work. 
  • Conley allowed three runs, one earned, on nine hits and three punchouts over 6.0 innings. 
  • Riley Kane earned the win for WNE. She had a one-run, one-hit, two-strikeout effort iin her 1.0 inning of relief. 
  • WNE's starter Ava Blanchard gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks with nine strikeouts to her credit over 6.0 innings. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Boci went 3-for-4 with one double to go along with two runs scored and two stolen bases. 
  • Scripter brought in three runs and had one hit. 
  • Cifaratta brought in one run on one hit. 
  • Brandow had one hit, a double, and scored once. 
  • Southers chipped in one hit and scored one run.
