Softball Falls in Game One at Western New England, 5-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk softball suffered a 5-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference setback to Western New England Saturday at Golden Bear Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Savannah Scripter's lead-off solo shot in the second inning placed Suffolk on the board. Catherine Carignan's two-out single to center brought in Ava Brandow, who singled herself, to give the Rams a two-run cushion. 

Western New England went ahead with a three-run third. The Golden Bears added one run in the fifth and sixth, respectively, to put the Rams in 5-2 hole. 

Maddie Southers worked a walk in the seventh, but the Rams bats could not rally around it and they fell to the Golden Bears, 5-2.

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Ava Brandow took the loss after giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts in 6.0 innings. 
  • Megan Beebe earned the victory with a two-run, six-hit, one-walk, three-strikeout, complete-game effort. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Scripter went 3-for-3 with one homer and one RBI. 
  • Brandow had one hit and scored one. 
  • Carignan brought in one run and had one hit.
