SUNY Cortland Shutouts Suffolk, 9-0

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Suffolk softball was kept off the scoreboard as the Rams bats stayed quiet in a 9-0 setback to Cortland Sunday morning at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Cortland 9
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-3) | Cortland (1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A double steal resulted in a first inning run to give the Red Dragons a lead they never let go of as Karlee Weeden shoved commanded the circle for Cortland.

Offensively, the margin grew to four in the second inning behind three walks, a Rams' mishap and a base hit. To halt the scoring, Janet Maguire made a change on the rubber as Ava Brandow came in to take over for Ella Turnbull.

The Rams reliever controlled matters until the sixth when Cortland finally figured Brandow out to extend the advantage to 7-0.

Cortland added another pair of runs in the top of the seventh before Kimberly Westenberg came in to pitch and retired the side for the 9-0 final.
