Upperclassmen Trio to Captain Softball in 2023

BOSTON – On the eve of its 2023 season debut, Suffolk softball head coach Janet Maguire has announced is tri-captains in seniors Ally Cifaratta and Savannah Scripter, and graduate student Caitlin Murphy

Murphy will begin her second season with the title, while Cifaratta and Scripter earned the leadership title for the first time in their careers.

"Each of the 2023 captains bring tremendous experience and on-field achievements to their leadership roles, "Maguire said. "They have worked during their time as Rams to build culture and raise the bar competitively. Collectively, they will set the tone for a young squad to find success this spring."

The trio have been staples in Suffolk's line-up since joining the fold as freshmen. Murphy has been the presence in center field. Cifaratta has held down the hot corner, while Scripter is station across the infield from Cifaratta at first when her powerful bat is not serving as the team's designated player.

Cifaratta looks to return to her post at third base. The Cicero, New York native's fielding presence and knowledge has been crucial for the Rams' defense over the last three years. Her presence at the plate does not go unnoticed as well as she was second on the squad a year ago with 39 hits behind a .331 average for 11 RBI to go along with 15c runs scored.

Murphy, an Abington, Massachusetts local, is a two-time all-league player including an All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Second-Team selection in 2021. The left-handed batter opted into her firth-year of eligibility after having an injury heavy senior season in 2022. Even though she missed 10 of the Rams' games she still produced 38 hits, including nine extra-base knocks, scored 25 runs and brought in a dozen herself behind a .361/.417/.476 slash line. She's swift on the base paths as well, swiping 19 bases in 20 chances.

Scripter saw action in 28 games. She supplied 24 hits, four of which went over the fence off a .300 average. She tallied 16 RBI and scored five runs as well.

The group will look to lead the Rams into their 40th campaign, which opens tomorrow, Thursday, March 9 against Iowa Wesleyan at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic at 11:00 a.m.
